Friday Favorites: Festival Fashion

Friday Favorites: Festival Fashion

After spending some time at the  Sasktel Saskatchewan Jazz Festival  this week, taking in shows and checking out all the fantastic festival fashion in Saskatoon, I've learned a few valuable lessons:

  1. Bring an umbrella.
  2. Have a bottle of sunscreen on your person at all times (even if you also brought an umbrella).
  3. Shoulder bags will keep your hands free (so you can apply sunscreen and hold your umbrella, possibly simultaneously).
  4. Lawn chairs are a smart idea if you’re not interested in squeezing in close to the stage. Picnic blankets look cute, but may not be a smart idea if you want to stay dry.
  5. Did I mention bringing an umbrella?

Earlier this week, I popped into some local boutiques and found five fantastic festival-worthy pieces that are sure to prove useful during all the outdoor festivals this summer!

Steve Madden Booties (Swank Shoe Lounge)

Swank Shoe Lounge co-owner, Jana Raskob, pulled out these booties when asked about her festival favorites. The brown ones arrived in store two days ago, and the black will be coming in soon. The velvety feel of the leather made is swoon-worthy, and the gold detailing is something that's been popping up in the fall 2013 collections (Prada did it, so did Burberry and Calvin Klein, to name a few).

Bang Bang Tie-Dyed Shorts (Luna & Hill)

Everyone loves a good worn-in cutoff, especially when festival season hits. If you’re looking to add a bit more awesome to yours, Bang Bang’s custom tie-dyed shorts are for you. Available in Canada exclusively at Luna & Hill.

Vero Moda Sheer Lace Top  (Tonic, or online at Farminista)

If you’re looking for something with a bigger “pretty factor", this tank is it. Wear it with a bandeau during festival season, and with a cami to transition it into fall.

Free People Jean Vest (Manhattan Casuals)

Jean jackets are classic, but jean vests are a way smarter idea at festivals. They allow for full movement of your arms, provide a little extra storage for that bottle of sunscreen, and won’t make you overheat in the sun but will keep your core warm in the rain. What’s not to love?

Birds of a Feather Crescent Spike Necklace (Tonic, or online at Farminista)

Wear this alone, or layer it with another of Tonic’s fabulous necklaces. The more the merrier.
